I'm not quite done, obviously, and at any rate, I'm so not ready to let these characters go. I'm going to push through until I've got all of my initial storyline sketched in a little more completely. Once that's done, I put it down for at least a week before picking it up to play with it again. Maybe I'll work on something from my idea file during that time.

The next draft is probably going to have more police procedural and less porn (*sigh*).

And I'm already germinating ideas for a sequel.
Since I had to drop my semester due to injury, I've been a bit at loose ends. I decided on a whim to do NaNoWriMo. I've been talking about it for a while, but this year was my first attempt. I cobbled together an idea for a kind of a vampire novel set in northern British Columbia, with drugs, sex, violence, dying towns and dysfunctional relationships. A sort of an anti-Twilight for grown-ups. I've been describing it as northern Canadian Gothic.

As with all NaNo novels, large parts of it are crap. But some parts of it are really, really interesting. And as of this evening, "Ghost River" is a NaNoWriMo winner!

I'm more than 50,000 words in. This is the longest, most involved project I've ever worked on, and I'm still obsessed with it. Even after spending 30 days writing about them, I still love all my characters, and I really want to see how their lives (or unlives, as it were) flesh out.

I think I'm in this for the long haul.
