I'll be honest: I have not read The Vampire Diaries, so going in to the series premiere, I knew exactly three things: the story involved a love triangle between a teenage girl and two vampire siblings (one good and the other, predictably, evil); the series itself was most likely only greenlit to cash in on the Twilight-induced vampire fad; and that because of the age of the characters, any attempt to relate to these vampires in terms of my - shall we say - penchant for the undead - was doomed to have me feeling less like a pervy vampire fancier than a skeevy old cougar. (I must confess, I really don't understand the current fixation with high-school aged vampires. If I were contemplating spending eternity in a particular age/social bracket, high school would most assuredly not be it.)

At any rate, due to the show's obvious play for the Twilight demographic, my bar was set suitably low, and I tuned in to the pilot with some trepidation.

Let's find out if this thing is worth watching... )

In summary, given that I suffered through an entire season of Moonlight on the basis of a less-intriguing premiere, I fear I may be in this for the long haul.

Today in the mail I received a letter from my college, helpfully informing me that my literature class had been cancelled. Gee. You think?

The letter was dated September 2, but the envelope was post-marked yesterday.

I'm kind of thinking a ball got dropped somewhere.
